Save money in Endoscope Decontamination! (May 2004)

Recent cost-analysis figures show that Lancer’s new Endoscope Aseptic Dryer and Storage Cabinet, the Fibro-Dryer FD8, can pay for itself in little over a year (or less) just by the enormous saving on disinfectant

When using a quality automated endoscope reprocessor the typical cycle cost of disinfectant used per scope is £3 to £4 (it can range from £2.50 to £6 or more!). A busy Endoscopy Unit in a large hospital will probably have upwards of 20-30 scopes and work say 300 days per annum (6 days a week for 50 weeks). Independent scientific studies have shown that the FD8 successfully maintains the decontaminated state of reprocessed scopes for up to 7 days which means that 8 scopes can be decontaminated after use as normal and then stored (perhaps overnight or until the next operating list) without the need for another decontamination process which had always been necessary before HEPA filtered drying and aseptic storage became available.

The maths is simple….even at the lower disinfectant cost of £3 per scope, with just one FD8 there is a minimum annual saving of 8 x £3 per day x 300, i.e. £7200. The cost of an FD8 is recovered in a little over a year and over 5 years the disinfectant saving is £26600. There are other cost-saving benefits to the user: less detergent used, less wear and tear on scopes, less user time spent reprocessing yet more time and scopes available to perform patient procedures. The Lancer Fibro-Dryer FD8, probably the best return on investment an Endoscopy Unit can make. Go on, buy one…..you don’t need a spending budget, it makes money! Find out more
